Introducing: FaltyDL
For those of you that have been hot on the explosion of ‘Future Garage’ over the past year, FaltyDL certainly won’t be a new name to your aural roster. In spite of that, each and every FaltyDL track I hear makes it harder to resist writing a post (tribute) about it.
Based in New York, FaltyDL has an impressive catalogue of releases to his name, but it was the ‘Phreqaflex’ EP released by Planet Mu in 2010 that really placed him on the map. In much the same way that Hyph Mngo broke down a few musical barriers, tracks like ‘My Friends Always Say‘ and ‘Because You‘ have the ability to soundtrack my Sunday morning, having no doubt shaken up dancefloors across London the night before. What’s more, recent releases like ‘Hip Love‘ (Ramp Recordings, 2011) have taken the melodic swing-influenced edge of FaltyDL’s music even further, without sacrificing the punchy drumbeats that make his tunes – be it in the depths of a London basement or while making breakfast – so addictively danceable.
However, having done a little digging, it turns out that FaltyDL’s musical career began in some fairly serious ‘glitch’ jungle – if you don’t believe me, check it out for yourself!
So there you have it, although already firmly established (certainly in my record collection!), FaltyDL is definitely one to keep an eye on.
